General Motors Named In Class Action Lawsuit Over Excessive Oil Consumption

Who Is Affected?

Anyone who owns or leases a 2010-2017 Chevy Equinox or a 2010-2015 GMC Terrain and has had problems with their car’s oil consumption.

Whats Going On?

Owners of the vehicles stated above have complained that the engines in their vehicles are burning oil at an excessive rate. I have heard complaints as high as 1 quart of oil every 500 miles.

Why A Class Action Lawsuit?

In a successful case, a class action lawsuit could help owners and lessees get back money they spent on:

  • Unreasonably frequent oil changes
  • Oil purchased to be carried around in the car “just in case”
  • Inspections, diagnostic tests and repairs to their car
  • Loss of the car’s value

  • What Should I Do Now?

GO CHECK YOUR OIL! If you own one of these vehicles you should be checking your oil at a minimum of every 1,000 miles. If you notice the oil is low, take the vehicle to a GM dealership asap and have them document the oil consumption.
Fill out the form on this page and tell them about the problems you had with your Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain. After you get in touch, one of the attorneys may reach out to you directly to learn more about your car’s problems and to explain more about your legal rights.

I bought a used 2013 chev equinox from a local hyndai dealership and 3 days after purvchasei, i realized after 2 days of checking oil, which i always do when buying a used vehicle, then the 3rd day it showed nothing on the stick. I brought it back to the dealer and wanted them to look it over and fix the issue. They told mr after a oil change vehicles will show less oil which im not dumb, a person shouldn’t have to add oil right after an oil change unless once u run the engine it may require half quart in order to show full on the driver. But not showing 0. They told me i signed papers, it was final and they are under no responsibility to even having to check put the issue. I go thru a quart every 3 to 5 days.

Bought a 2015 Chevy Equinox. Had oil changed, three weeks latet, engine blew up. Only had car seven months. Mechanic told me he knew about recall, after it blew up. I had to pay for repairs. Paid for down payment, then paid car off. Two weeks later, engine blows. My luck. Now wheel bearings are going out. Sick.

I have a 2012 GMC Terrain which had an oil consumption issue at 79,000 miles, brought it in to the dealership and it was supposedly fixed. This last weekend at 130,000 the engine seized because there was no oil and it showed oil life 56%. life is not good and totally stressed out d/t still owing money on the damn vehicle.

I have a 2012 Chevy Captiva put over $4,000 in fixing it and it’s still burning about a quart every thousand miles

My 2010 GMC Terrain only has a little over 60K miles on it and I just found out that I’m having to replace the engine for a total cost of around
$7500. I have kept it serviced religiously and it gave NO NOTICE that it was low on oil before the engine was destroyed. I am also very stressed because I just paid the damned thing off. I will NEVER, EVER buy another GM product as long as I live!
