I wanted to purchase the DeWalt DCL079 back at Christmas, but decided against it. I looked into what the replacement cost of the light head and that basically was the reason for not buying. The light head on this unit has to be replaced in its entirety if the light “goes out”. Whether that will happen or not depends on a lot of factors. LEDs have a much longer life expectancy but anything can happen.

The current replacement cost of the light head is $265.00. When talking with a DeWalt repair facility in Columbus I was told that the light head assembly on the tripod is only warranted for one year when new. If you then have to replace the head, the replacement head is only warranted for 90 days.

I just thought it was important enough to mention these facts since they might be factors for potential buyers. Light duty users have a lot less to worry about, but anyone can drop the tripod (after 12 months) possibly damaging it and then you might as well replace the whole unit instead of repairing it.
