With all the competition on eBay it is really important to be promoting your items yourself. It helps you get more sales and if you can build a following on social media then you are also growing your own personal brand. The best part about using social media as a form of advertising your eBay business is that it is FREE! Now the bad part is that keeping up with the social media accounts can take up valuable time, time that could be used to list, pack and ship your items.
I want to show you how you can use RSS feeds and a website called IFTTT (If This Then That) to automatically post your new eBay items to both Facebook and Twitter. The first thing you will need is the RSS feed URL for your eBay items. In the URL below you will need to change the part that says YOUREBAYIDHERE to your actual eBay ID. This is NOT your store name.
http://rest.ebay.com/epn/v1/find/item.rss?keyword=%20&sortOrder=StartTimeNewest&programid=1&campaignid=5337695400&toolid=10039&listingType1=All&lgeo=1&sellerId1=YOUREBAYIDHERE&feedType=rss
Now that you have the correct RSS feed you will need to head over to IFTTT and add the recipe to your account. IFTTT is 100% free, all you will need to do to sign up is provide an e-mail and a password.
The button above will bring you to a page with 2 text boxes. The first box is labelled “Feed URL”, this is where you will put the URL listed above, with your own eBay user ID added.
The second box is labelled “Tweet Text”. You do not have to change anything in this box. By default your tweet will include the title of your eBay item and the link to that item. If you would like you can add hashtags to this box.
Next all you have to do is click the big blue add button and you are all set. While you are on the page you can do me a huge favor by clicking the favorite button ().
