Harbor Freight Doyle Fast Adjust Water Pump Pliers (56748, 56747, 56749) - PJ - 06-23-2020
Recently Harbor Freight released some new pliers under the Doyle brand name. They are "fast adjust" water pump pliers. You may notice they look remarkably similar to Knipex Cobras. And even pretty similar to the GearWrench Push Button Tongue and Groove Plier.
They are being sold in 3 sizes: 8in, 10in and 12in. With the introductory prices being $15.99, $19.99 and $24.99. Generally speaking most new products will see a price drop within the first couple of months. Also once Harbor Freight gets back to regular sale ads and coupon e-mails we will likely see coupons for these that will be very near 20% off.
Harbor Freight is really pushing their new brands, trying to market them somewhere between "prosumer" (pro-consumer) and professional quality. The prices at present are pretty much in the middle of the spectrum but personally if I am willing to pay $20 or $25 for pliers from Harbor Freight then I am also willing to pay a bit more for Knipex which has a fantastic reputation.
Personally, I have no need for these and am perfectly happy with my Knipex pliers. It will be interesting to see how people like these but it will take awhile to start hearing honest opinions. Side note, I am 100% convinced HF removes or never posts negative reviews on their products. Personally I have had at least 2 less than stellar reviews that I know never made it to the site and have had several others tell me they experienced the same thing.

I agree with the ‘willing to pay’ comment, in general. HF does have a few things which are just as good, though, or just a plain, better value even with their recent attempt to upgrade their tool lines.

These, for instance, are a better value (with 20% off) even though you can get the Mountain version at a cheaper price on Amazon or other tool sites. They are often warrantied wrenches because people treat them like breaker bars. NAPA has some branded Carlyle, but they’re listed at about $219 I believe.
Having said that, those are one of the few tools that have made me seriously consider Icon, Doyle, or Hercules. Hopefully, prices will adjust via market forces.

One of my favorite tool brands. I really should see what in my pliers drawer can be upgraded to a Knipex version.

I bought one of the smaller Knipex pump pliers (5"? 6"?) from one of the Struggleville deals a few months ago....They are very nice, and probably one of the nicer sets of pliers I have. I'm waiting for some more Knipex tool deals, PJ!!!
I have been looking for the 8" Doyle pump pliers to give them a looksee at home. I don't need these types of pliers much, but the smaller are more useful for me. However, the HFs near me haven't seemed to have gotten the 8" version in, but have had the larger version for weeks.
