LED Deformable Lights - Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?

The price of these deformable lights has dropped like a rock over the past year.  When I first saw these lights they were easily $60 a piece.  They are really bright but what a gut punch for a single light.  Fast forward to today where I found the one listed below.  Its a sale price but no promo code or coupon needed.

Some have motion detection which is nice.  All the ones with motion detection that I have seen have a switch on the side so you can turn it off and run it like a normal light.  

Have you tried these lights?  What do you think?  Has the high price kept you away from them in the past?

I have been debating on picking that one up.  Its a little bit different style than the more I guess you could say traditional deformable lights.  My only worry was if it would get damaged too easily because of the plastic?  Then again if its a ceiling light what are the odds anything is ever going to touch it?


Whichever style you go with I have been really impressed, imagine going from a 60w incandescent bulb to one of these suckers.  Quite literally the difference of night and day!

I got a deal from your site for one of these. I put it in my shed (I just ran utilities to my shed about 1 year ago or so). This light is AMAZING.... I don't really have many of these sockets around the house these days, but this worked out great here.

I also got one from your site for a light that I use in my garage as a drop light of sorts.

One thing I learned about using it as a drop light is it gets hotter than I expected for LED.  I had it laying on my roll around shop stool with a cushion top because it gave me a good angle at what I was working on.  Anyway it didnt take long at all for it to melt the cushion which also deformed the plastic over the LED.  

I bought a shed light a week or so ago I will do a video on here pretty soon.  Its an LED light that plugs into a solar panel, I havent put it up yet, I think it will be ok but without even using it there are some things I dont like about it.

Yeah they do get surprisingly hot.  You are right about that.

I have an outside light that I submitted to your site a few months ago.  It was a Wal-Mart deal (Maybe a Westinghouse setup?  I don't recall).  Anyway, I have 3 of them in my yard and I LOVE THEM..  They are bright as can be and solar.  They do really really well.

I wish the LED florescent lights were compatible with ballasts where you could just easily replace the bulbs in the existing fixture.

You can put led bulbs in florescent ballast. I did this in my garage. I want to pick up a couple deformable lights for the garage door opener light. To get them t ok face the correct location I'm going to order light socket extension.

Good info on the ballasts!!!!!  Are they all compatible with that???

Good idea using the deformables in the garage door opener, but I am not sure I can use in mine as I have a cover (which I could remove I suppose), and because of the angle it is right up against my opener I think  I will need to check again.
