I can't tell you how long I have been fighting this leak at the TV cable (detent cable) of my 700R4. I think I finally crawled out of my stupid hole and got it figure out though. Originally the transmission was leaking at the TV cable and when I took it off I saw that the rubber boot that seals the cable to the transmission was torn. So thats simple enough, I bought a new boot which you can get at Advance Auto threw it on and..... still leaks. OK, bought a new TV cable which came with a new boot of its own, put it on and..... still leaks. Tried tightening the little 10mm bolt as much as I dare and still leaks. When looking at where the cable housing meets the transmission you can see the back side (opposite side of the bolt) is kicked up, a noticeable gap between the housing and the transmission. So thats the problem but why doesn't the bolt hold it down?
The problem is the boot or seal is not seating correctly into the transmission. A smart person takes the boot off the TV cable and puts it in place in the hole on the transmission first and then inserts the TV cable into said hole.
It only took me 10 years to figure that out, better late than never. Fingers crossed their won't be any transmission fluid on the floor when I go out to the garage tomorrow.
