The Official Rules: What Counts? According to the ad, here is how to maximize your savings:

The “Fit” Rule: All merchandise must fit inside the bag at one time.
The “Double Height” Loophole: Menards allows items up to twice the height of the bag to qualify, as long as they fit inside the width of the bag.
No Stacking: You cannot stack items on top of each other extending beyond the double-height limit.
One Bag Per Visit: Limited to one bag per guest, per visit. (But we all know you can just go back in!)

The “Double Dip”: Can You Use Rebates Too? Yes! The 15% Bag Discount applies to the Sale Price. If an item also has a Mail-In Rebate, you can usually stack them.

Strategy: You pay the discounted price at the register (Sale Price minus 15%), and then submit your rebate receipt for the original rebate amount (check the specific rebate form terms, but this is the standard “Menards Hack”).

Pro tip: Make a trip over to the 5 gallon buckets and put one inside the bag. Fits pretty well with just the top lip sticking out which makes it allowable. You can fit a lot more in the bucket without fear of it ripping or falling apart.
