Paranoia from what though???  Guns can kind of be explained under paranoia.

I guess a fear of being under lock down.  They are scared certain every day items won't be available if all stores were closed.

Turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.  Now they are not available regardless.

I don't know.  You could always use rags, dish towels, etc.

Who said people were smart though.
